LearnWorlds, the Greek educational technology startup, proudly announces another great success as it was just selected amongst the 9 winners of the Open Education Challenge, an EU competition seeking for the most promising educational startups from across the world!!!
Competing against 610 submissions from 74 countries, LearnWorlds reached the finals that were held in Barcelona on the 15th of July, where it successfully pitched its concept in front of a 10 member expert European Jury chaired by Lord David Puttnam and with the participation of Xavier Prats Monné, Deputy Director-General for Education and Culture at the European Commission!
The jury was convinced not only by the technical excellence of the e-learning platform but also by the passion, drive and vision of the LearnWorlds team to transform self-paced learning. Perhaps it sounds arrogant when such a claim is made by a small Greek startup but everyday more and more people seem to be convinced that we are able to pull this through!
Now LearnWorlds, along with the other 8 winning projects, apart from €20.000 seed funding and access to the European Incubator for Innovation in Education, gains important access to a pool of world-renowned startup mentors and investors that will help the company accelerate the implementation of its plan and reach European and global markets much sooner than initially foreseen.
The Open Education Challenge was launched in partnership with the European Commission, as part of the Startup Europe initiative. It is an opportunity for cutting-edge education startups to receive mentoring and seed funding through the European Incubator for Innovation in Education, and get direct access to investors from day one.
Panos Siozos (COO) and Fanis Despotakis (CTO) who represented LearnWorlds in the workshop and finals held in Barcelona were thrilled to work closely with all the fantastic teams, receive and give feedback and polish the LearnWorlds’ pitch up until the last minute. The fantastic team of the Open Education Challenge managed to create a truly warm, participatory and a non-competitive atmosphere (which is an amazing achievement for a Competition!!!). A big thanks to all of them and especially Pierre-Antoine Ullmo who is the heart and soul of OEC and one of the most passionate people for education we have met in years. Thanks for everything!
Now the LearnWorlds team, after an exhausting and exciting three days in Barcelona is back to base, working hard to release even more great features and a couple of amazing new full LearnWorlds that will blow your mind away!
