Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) for online payments [We are ready]

On September 14th, 2019, Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirements for online payments will go into effect within the European Union. This is one of the new requirements of the PSD2, the second Payment Services Directive which requires authentication for online payments. The aim of SCA is to reduce fraud and make online payments more secure.

***This affects you if your business is based in the EU or you have a strong customer base in Europe.***

Sounds complex and scary and frankly, it is. But that’s what we are here for:)

LearnWorlds is preparing for the SCA by updating our checkout system to automatically be compliant with ‘3DS 2.0’, the main authentication tool of the SCA.

We are already working with Stripe to implement the updates and ensure that your school processes payments safely and securely, without any disruption.

LearnWorlds customers will not need to take any action as this will be an automatic update to all accounts making them SCA compliant.

So, you can sit back and relax. Or if you want to learn more about SCA and PSD2, read on.

Using LearnWorlds with Stripe as your payment gateway will make your SCA compliant, safe and secure, without any extra steps.

What is Strong Customer Authentication (SCA)?

Strong customer authentication (SCA) is a requirement of the EU Revised Directive on Payment Services (PSD2) on payment service providers within the EU.

The SCA requirement comes into force from September 14, 2019 and applies to all online transactions where the payment processor and the card Issuing Bank are from the European Economic Area (EEA).

The requirement ensures that electronic payments are performed with multi-factor authentication, to increase the security of electronic payments.

To accept payments once SCA goes into effect, the customer will need to provide two or more of three of the following elements:

You can read more on the authentication and the three elements on EBA’s website.

If your business is based out of Europe or has a significant customer base in the EEA, it is strongly recommended to be SCA compliant. 3DS 2.0 would be your go-to option to comply with SCA regulations.

LearnWorlds’ integration with Stripe will take full advantage of 3DS 2.0 so that your online transactions are guaranteed to have the highest security standards!

Create a beautiful online school without any technical skills.
