The biggest challenge that Voltage Control faced was the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced a change in how it operated. As in-person gatherings and events abruptly ended, Voltage Control turned its attention to its facilitation community. It was time to try something new that took place in the virtual world, so they started looking for a learning platform that would make this possible.

As a solution to the challenges posed by the new reality, the university started expanding its learning opportunities with synchronous workshop cohorts and asynchronous video courses with the help of LearnWorlds. Through the online podium, Voltage Control’s success has been phenomenal. Its Facilitator community has been growing steadily and is now 3K strong, and its free Facilitation Lab is hosting 50 to 80 members every week. The university offers 15 courses and is adding new courses to its course catalog every few months.

When the pandemic hit, Voltage Control started looking for a learning platform to help create the university's online version. To make it happen, the team first gathered an extensive list of all the platforms in the market and created a spreadsheet to find those features they cared most about. Then they started setting up trial accounts, testing their courses, and experimenting with the user experience.

Blending Asynchronous & Synchronous Learning

Voltage Control wanted to expand its offerings using asynchronous and synchronous learning approaches through workshop cohorts and video courses. Through the university, they wanted learners to learn at their own pace, at any time of the day, and for as long as they needed. Easy course creation, white-labeling, affordable pricing, mobile app, and community-building capabilities were the must-have capabilities of the platform they were planning to use.
