Manage your school’s tracking tags with the Google Tag Manager LMS integration

Add and update conversion, analytics, and remarketing tags without editing your school’s code. The Google Tag Manager LMS integration connects your container with one GTM code.

TL;DR

The Google Tag Manager integration puts your tag container on your school with one GTM code. Your team then adds and updates tags in GTM instead of touching site code.

Stop editing site code for every tag. Add and update tags inside GTM

Skip building events from scratch. Sign-up, purchase, and checkout events come ready to turn on

Manage tag consent in one place. Turn on Google Consent v2 with one checkbox

Best for: Marketing teams who manage several tracking and remarketing tags across their school.

Available on all paid plans. Server-side events through automations need the Learning Center plan or higher.

What teams ask before connecting

If I use GTM to fire my GA4 tag, do I still need the native GA4 integration in LearnWorlds?

No. Google Tag Manager is one of three ways to set up GA4 in LearnWorlds, and you should use only one of them. In GTM, add a GA4 Configuration tag with your Measurement ID and choose the All Pages trigger.

Do learners need to accept cookies before GTM fires?

Yes. Users need to accept the Marketing Cookies for Google Tag Manager to work properly. For Google Consent v2, also check the second box in the integration settings.

How to set up the LearnWorlds and Google Tag Manager integration

You need a Google account. Create a GTM container, paste its code into LearnWorlds, and finish with consent mode set up for your tags.

1. Create a GTM account

Go to tagmanager.google.com with your Google account and enter an account name and country. Requires: a Google account.

2. Set up a web container

Name your container, select Web, and click Create. Then read and accept the Google Tag Manager Terms.

3. Copy your GTM code

Google generates the container installation snippet. Copy the GTM-XXXXXX code and click OK.

4. Activate the integration

In LearnWorlds, open Settings > Integrations > Analytics and activate Google Tag Manager. Paste your GTM code and click Save.

Check the second box for Google Consent v2, then turn on the consent overview in GTM under Admin > Container Settings. For the full setup guide, see the Google Tag Manager help article.
